Taking Stock: 10 Things I’m looking forward to in 2018
Over the past few years, the first of January has always been just another day for me. The last year was one of the “longest” I’ve experienced but it came with lots of lessons that set me up better for this year. For once in a very long time I am excited and anxious for what lays ahead. Let’s hope 2018 will be good to all of us.
Here are a few things I am looking forward to this year.
Have you ever found yourself in a position when it feels things are happening so fast around you and don’t seem to have control of the situation you’re in? Well, if you haven’t then lucky you. For those of us who’ve been wallowing in a sense of helplessness over our fate then this is the year to finally become the masters of our fate and captains of our souls.
I want a measure of control over myself – body, mind, spirit – and everything other aspect of my life – career, finances, relationships etc.
2. Creative Collaborations
Moving back to Nairobi last year didn’t have the excitement I thought it would bring but if there was one thing I had missed was the creative scene. Nakuru had given me a comfortable bubble but I had ended up almost neglecting my creative self. Long story short, I finally got on stage for a performance in God knows how long. It was scary but in hindsight proved to be one of the best things I had done last year.
This year I am looking to be creative as I can be. Write more, read more, play more, sing more and most important of all work with other creative people. If you’re reading this and feel like we could do something then email me (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Procrastination got the better of me with regards to finishing my project thesis. If I can get that PG Dip and sit for the PMP exams then it will be a good year.
The wanderlust is strong in this one – untapped and unexplored. There is beauty in this world and I want to see as much of it as I can.
Intentional happiness. My mum says I struggle with depression because I am never happy. Worry too much. Hold back too much. Maybe she’s right.
Let’s strive to be purposefully happy this year.
My God there is so much I have to read.
New listens, memorable lyrics, sound tracks to defining moments in our lives..
There are so many guys I know who are releasing new music this year. I shall be here to share it with the world.
8. Family time
If this list was being written in order of importance then this would have been high up there. Let’s spend more time with family this year, the elders and the “youngings”.
Ladies, your boy is single and searching.
10. The Blog
There is need for growth and consistency. Consistency in growth. To the few who get to share this journey called life with me via this blog, let’s engage more this year. I want to write more. Poetry, short stories, sports, lifestyle thoughts and reviews. And I am very open to guest writers 🙂
Wishing you all a year full of love and light.
